All of a sudden one went 'BANG!'
(Clap hands loudly)

Four fat sausages frying in a pan,
(Hold up four fingers)
All of a sudden one went 'BANG!'

Three fat sausages frying in a pan,
(Hold up three fingers)
All of a sudden one went 'BANG!'

Two fat sausages frying in a pan,

If you did not twinkle so.

In the dark blue sky you keep,
And often through my curtains peep,
For you never shut your eye,
'Till the sun is in the sky.

Lights the traveller in the dark,
Though I know not what you are,

Dreidel Song

I have a little dreidel
I made it out of clay
And when it's dry and ready
Then dreidel I shall play.

Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made it out of clay,
And when it's dry and ready
Then dreidel I shall play.

It has a lovely body,
With legs so short and thin,
And when my dreidel's tired
It drops and then I win.

Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made it out of clay,
And when it's dry and ready
Then dreidel I shall play.

My dreidel's always playful,
It loves to dance and spin
A happy game of dreidel
Come play, now let's begin.

Oh dreidel, dreidel, dreidel
I made it out of clay,
And when it's dry and ready
Then dreidel I shall play.

Frosty the Snow Man

Frosty the snowman was a jolly happy soul
With a corncob pipe and a button nose
and two eyes made out of coal

Frosty the snowman is a fairy tale they say
He was made of snow but the children
know how he came to life one day
There must have been some magic in that
old silk hat they found
For when they placed it on his head
he began to dance around

O Frosty the snowman
was alive as he could be
And the children say he could laugh
and play just the same as you and me

Thumpety thump thump
thumpety thump thump
Look at Frosty go
Thumpety thump thump
thumpety thump thump
Over the hills of snow

Frosty the snowman knew
the sun was hot that day
So he said
"Let's run and
we'll have some fun
now before I melt away"
Down to the village
with a broomstick in his hand
Running here and there all
around the square saying
Catch me if you can
He led them down the streets of town
right to the traffic cop
And he only paused a moment when
he heard him holler "Stop!"
For Frosty the snow man
had to hurry on his way
But he waved goodbye saying
"Don't you cry
I'll be back again some day"

Thumpety thump thump
thumpety thump thump
Look at Frosty go
Thumpety thump thump
thumpety thump thump
Over the hills of snow

Jingle Bells

Dashing through the snow, in a one-horse open sleigh
Over the fields we go, laughing all the way;
Bells on bob-tail ring, making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing a sleighing song tonight.

Chorus:
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh
Jingle bells, jingle bells, jingle all the way!
O what fun it is to ride in a one-horse open sleigh.

A day or two ago, I thought I'd take a ride
And soon Miss Fanny Bright, was seated by my side;
The horse was lean and lank, misfortune seemed his lot;
He got into a drifted bank and we got upsot.
(Chorus)
A day or two ago, the story I must tell
I went out on the snow, and on my back I fell;
A gent was riding by, in a one-horse open sleigh
He laughed as there I sprawling lie but quickly drove away.
(Chorus)
Now the ground is white, go it while you're young
Take the girls tonight, and sing this sleighing song;
Just get a bob-tailed bay, two-forty as his speed
Hitch him to an open sleigh and crack! you'll take the lead.
(Chorus)

Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Oh! You better watch out,
You better not cry,
You better not pout,
I'm telling you why:
Santa Claus is coming to town!

He's making a list,
He's checking it twice,
Gonna find out who's naughty or nice.
Santa Claus is coming to town!

He sees you when you're sleeping,
He knows when you're awake.
He knows when you've been bad or good,
So be good for goodness sake!

So...You better watch out, You better not cry
You better not pout, I'm telling you why.
Santa Claus is coming to town.

We won't go until we get some;
We won't go until we get some;
We won't go until we get some, so bring some out here.

Songs, rhymes and bounces

Welcome to the song, bounce and rhyme section of Polliwog! We hope that having access to these texts will make it easier for you to sing and play with your child! (There is oodles of research on how beneficial this is to a child's development.)

We also hope that publishing these texts will help the thousands of ESL families in Vancouver - many of us did not grow up singing 'Twinkle, twinkle'!

As a small gesture to our multicultural community we have some entries in languages other than English. We welcome additions to our song, rhyme and bounce pages. (Please make sure that the texts are in the public domain before contacting us)

Happy singing!
