Canadian Nanny
Canadian Nanny is an online service for families looking for nannies. The service is free for nannies, families pay either a 2 month or 6 month subscription (at $65.95 or $105.95 respectively) and can then post an ad looking for a care provider. You can search the number of active nannies in your city prior to joining - this is a good way to get a sense of how likely you are to succeed. The site includes both part-time, and full-time live-in and live-out nannies.
The nannies are not vetted, and neither are the families. This site is created to bringing the two sides together and they can then do all their checks and negotiations if there is a compatibility. The service has been running since 2002, (it started as a babysitter service) and now also includes an adult care branch. Founder Martha Scully (herself an ECE, Infant Therapist and Resource Teacher) started the service in Ontario, but has since relocated to BC.
The FAQ section of the site includes a lot of useful information which will be helpful in the search (e.g average pay, which currently is $8-14 / hour). There are also comment sections of past and present users as well as a lot of links.
