Movies for Mommies
Movies for Mommies is just that - special daytime screenings of films for Moms with small babies. The recommended baby age is 0-18 months, and naturally Dads, grandparents or caregivers are welcome too. Vancouver screenings are at the RIO Theater (at East Broadway and Commercial) every second Wednesday at 12:30, with doors opening at 12:00. (Movies for Mommies moved here from the Ridge in October 2009).
In the theater, the Moms watch the movies and the babies mostly sleep. No-one is bothered by a bit of crying, and should it persist, you can always step into the lobby. The houselights are normally not all the way down so you can see your way in and out even during the film. There are change tables and complimentary wipes in the lobby.
Through partnerships with sponsors there may be product promotions with samples in the lobby, and sometimes service providers such as photographers taking free portraits.(MFM is a growing franchise, and the business part of it is well run.)
Movies for Mommies can be a great way to get out and meet friends especially in winter when it is cold and rainy. The movies are mostly lighter fare - romantic comedies and dramas.
Beginning September 22, Movies for Mommies will run in Cloverdale every other Wednesday afternoon at the Clova Cinema. Mothers and their babies are welcomed into an infant-friendly environment where they can escape into a current movie.
