Mette Dresses
Kristin Rasmussen is self taught as a dressmaker - she has always enjoyed sewing and uses it as her creative outlet. (She was sewing on the side even while she was working in the corporate world). After the birth of her daughter in 2006, Kristin started to make small clothes for little girls and noticed how much more manageable that was than working on large orders such as bridesmaids dresses or other adult outfits.
With help from several friends in her creative community, as well as the Small Business Centre in Vancouver, Kristin fashioned her company called Mette, which now sells beautiful one of a kind children's dresses online. These dresses are easy to fit, and easy to love - and they make great gifts. There are many different models and styles, suitable for everyday and festive occasions alike.
The special feature about Mette dresses is that most of the fabrics are recycled, Kristin spends a lot of time scouring vintage stores and other places for high quality natural materials, mostly cotton and linen (she decidedly stays away from polyester). Some of her wool and cashmere dresses need to be dry cleaned, with all the rest of the dresses being machine washable.
The designs are great, and Mette is a model of truly sustainable, small local business. Sizes are available from 12 months to 6 years, and prices range from $40-$60
Kristin welcomes direct sale requests, and also sells online through her website and etsy. You may also see her at various seasonal markets or holiday sales in Vancouver. (Oh, and she is back to making adult dresses too - in case you have a need - just ask!)
