KoKoPeLLi Café

Funky and friendly Kokopelli Café is across the street from Stongs on Dunbar.
Inside you will find a modern and tastefully decorated room with a great spread of food, snacks and baked goods at the counter.
The food is all homemade, and it is hard to say which is the bigger draw - the kids' mac and cheese or the adults soups and sandwiches. All are excellent, and Kokopelli coffees have been noted in several 'Best in Vancouver' -awards. The children's playarea is spacious and clean. The toys are mostly on small tables - this makes the play area is best suited for babies who stand and walk. For a little bit older children, there is also a selection of children's books.
Kokopelli is a favorite in the Dunbar community, but many clients also come from across town to have a nice meal in a truly kid-friendly place.

Little Nest

This ‘parent friendly’ café just off the Drive has become a crowd favorite. Popular as a brunch / lunch / coffee place, Little Nest offers seating options from their big community table to the two seat tables at the window or on the sidewalk. There is an array of vintage high chairs for kids.

Little Nest gets packed with strollers, and it is safe to say that probably at least 80% of the customers are parents with babies in tow.
There is a play area with toys and even a little play kitchen for the wee ones. The toys get sanitized frequently; there are baby spoons for feeding or sharing your soup - etc. etc. - Little Nest has to be one of the most child friendly establishments in town. The kitchen closes at three, with the last hour open for drinks only.

Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company

Rocky Mountain Flatbread Company was founded by Suzanne and Dominic Fielden in Canmore, Alberta in 2003.
Along with the family's relocation to Vancouver, the Kitsilano location opened in 2006. Suzanne and Dominic continue to develop and expand the business - always true to their initial values of providing nutritious organic food, supporting of local farmers and food producing communities and maintaining a truly family friendly facility - after all, they are parents of three.

Being able to make your own pizza tops the many delights this restaurant offers children - Sunday and Monday evenings from 5-7 pm are Family Pizza Making Nights  - there are even small aprons for each small chef! The play area features two wooden play kitchens complete with felt fruit and veggies in baskets. We have never seen this establishment run out of high chairs - this is a great place for an outing for even a large a Moms' group. There is a kids' menu with small mozza pizzas, mac and cheese, veggie snacks and more.  The back of the menu is a colouring sheet and they  have lots of crayons.

Birthday pizza making parties are another children's favorite - very affordable at $13 per child. Additional services available are crafts and apron painting.

Rocky Mountain Flatbread has an advanced sustainability policy and they also practice what they preach - the entire operation is carbon neutral, all waste is composted, take out containers are bio-degradable and all seafood is Ocean Wise certified. Their community outreach programs have seen hundreds of schoolchildren learn life skills, entrepreneurial eco-initiatives and how to make nutritious snacks. Talk about going beyond the call of duty.

The results of all this are a huge success - the restaurant is currently scouting for a second location in Vancouver. Thumbs up!

White Spot

We at Polliwog don’t generally plug chain stores or restaurants but White Spot deserves an exception.

This local chain truly welcomes families. They have a kids’ menu, crayons for toddlers, high chairs galore and change tables at all locations (we know – some of the washrooms are cramped – but they still work). The service is fast and considerate and the food is dependable. With excellent long hours, White Spot is a great choice for an easy family outing.

Locations Various across Vancouver - BC and Alberta even!

We at Polliwog only list companies that provide great service. It's that simple.

We particularly like promoting local, independent small businesses - they deserve all our support.

We don't charge for listings - i.e. you can't buy your way in. The listings are based on our experience as clients and discerning consumers.

We visit and contact the stores, review their web sites, talk to the Owners and bring you their stories. And we bring you our impressions.
