BirthFest

This annual event is hosted by BirthLounge, a group of wonderful women all involved in professions around birth and newborns.

Britannia Community Centre sponsors the event by providing use of their Gym.

The fair has about 50 tables from all aspects of services regarding babies, birth and families as well as great entertainment, draws and prizes. This is a great place to come and learn about local services and businesses who specialize in birth and perinatal issues.

At Birthfest you can meet a midwife, a doula, a public health nurse, talk to La Leche League, find a chiropractor, learn about fitness and nutrition, get information about Cesarean sections, post-partum depression, children's books, organic clothing, fabric diapers etc.etc. You can also purchase baby and child items directly form the suppliers or manufacturers who are present.

There is no other birth related event in Vancouver that comes even close to the usefulness, quality and atmosphere of BirthFest.

2011 Birthfest will take place on Saturday February 26, from 11 am to 4 pm at the Britannia Gym. See you there!

Maternal Creations

Maternal Creations is a craft sale organised by Pomegranate Community Midwives. All vendors are mothers, and the merchandise varies from knitted caps, mittens and clothing to home made dolls, jewelry, hand bound books, tapestries and paintings! (And of course next year can bring something completely new again ...)

This event started at Pomegranate, but has since moved to Little Nest into a bigger space. Maternal Creations is a two day event and an excellent way to launch your holiday shopping or just visit and support a growing array of local Mom crafters.

Maternal Creations takes place in November.

We at Polliwog only list companies that provide great service. It's that simple.

We particularly like promoting local, independent small businesses - they deserve all our support.

We don't charge for listings - i.e. you can't buy your way in. The listings are based on our experience as clients and discerning consumers.

We visit and contact the stores, review their web sites, talk to the Owners and bring you their stories. And we bring you our impressions.
